Survey underway to verify information on suspected martyrs’ graves in Son La

A team responsible for searching for and verifying information on martyrs’ graves under the provincial Steering Committee, in coordination with Chieng Khoong commune, on September 10 conducted a survey to verify information about graves suspected to belong to martyrs, based on information provided by local residents.

The working team and Chieng Khoong commune’s authorities coordinate in verifying information about suspected martyrs’ graves in Cang Kieng hamlet.

According to Luong Van Tui, born in 1955, and Ha Van Pang, born in 1953, both currently residing in Cang Kieng hamlet, Chieng Khoong commune, they heard from the elderly in the late 1960s and early 1970s about two graves in Cang hamlet (now Cang Kieng hamlet), Chieng Khoong commune. The graves were believed to belong to martyrs who died during the resistance war against the French colonialists.

The graves were previously looked after and tended by local residents. However, over time, changes in the terrain caused all specific traces of the graves to disappear. At present, they may be located within the garden of the family of Deo Van Thiem in Cang Kieng hamlet.

The working team and Chieng Khoong commune’s authorities survey the area suspected of housing martyrs’ graves in Cang Kieng hamlet.

The working team studied and cross-checked the information, consulted historical records, interviewed witnesses and the people who provided the information, and conducted a field survey of the two suspected martyrs' graves in the garden of a local resident in Cang Kieng hamlet.

It will continue coordinating with relevant agencies to verify the information and complete the necessary documentation, and propose the provincial Steering Committee mobilise forces to excavate, recover, and reinter the remains in accordance with regulations./.
