Women’s Union chapters in Son La sponsor 222 orphaned children

Under the “Godmother” programme, Women’s Union chapters across the province are supporting 222 children for periods ranging from two to five years.

Representatives from the Women’s Union of Chieng La commune visit a sponsored girl. 

In 2025 alone, the units paid visits, purchased health insurance cards and covered part of the children’s education and living expenses, including clothing and essential food supplies on occasions such as International Children’s Day, the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Lunar New Year and the start of the new school year. They also funded knowledge enrichment and life-skills training, with total costs exceeding 500 million VND (19,185 USD).

The provincial Women’s Union has instructed its chapters to continue reviewing cases and mobilising support to orphaned children residing in the locality, in line with local conditions and each unit’s capacity.
