World Environment Day observed in Son La

The provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, in coordination with the People's Committee of Chieng An ward, on June 4 held a ceremony in response to World Environment Day (June 5), the 2026 Action Month for the Environment, World Oceans Day, Vietnam Sea and Islands Week 2026, and the 2026 National Week for Clean Water and Rural Environmental Sanitation.

Attending the ceremony were Nguyen Thanh Cong, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, leaders of provincial departments, agencies and socio-political organisations, representatives of businesses, and a large number of youth union members and local residents.

With the theme of World Environment Day 2026, “Climate Action,” the event aimed to raise public awareness and responsibility for environmental protection and climate change response, while promoting green and sustainable development.

At the event, participants were briefed on the state of the environment and the challenges facing environmental protection and climate change response efforts across the province.

Speaking at the ceremony, Cong called on departments, sectors and localities to step up communications efforts to raise public awareness of environmental protection and climate change response. He also urged the implementation of practical measures such as waste collection and treatment, water resource protection, and reducing the use of single-use plastics.

In addition, he encouraged businesses to adopt clean technologies and environmentally friendly production models. He further called for enhancing disaster forecasting and early warning capabilities, while strengthening inspections and strictly handling violations of laws on natural resources and the environment.

Participants take part in a tree-planting activity following the ceremony.

Immediately after the ceremony, delegates, youth union members, armed forces personnel, and local residents took part in tree planting; clearing waterways and dredging irrigation canals; cleaning rural water supply facilities; and collecting waste at residential areas and schools in Chieng An ward.
