Provincial leaders on August 31 visited and inspected preparations by forces and units taking part in Moc Chau Culture and Tourism Week 2026, urging them to ensure the event is safe, well organised and showcases Son La's cultural identity.

Binh Thuan commune hosted more than 3,000 tourists in the first three days of the National Day holiday from August 29-31, with visitors exploring attractions including the tea hills, Pha Din Market and Pha Din Top tourist area.

As part of Moc Chau Culture and Tourism Week 2026, an ethnic cultural and tourism camp area was held on August 31 at May 8 Square in Moc Chau Ward, bringing together eight communes and wards from the Moc Chau National Tourism Area and five from other parts of the province: Quynh Nhai, Ngoc Chien, Muong Chanh, Ta Xua and Binh Thuan.

With their youthful energy, pioneering spirit, creativity and technological agility, young people in Son La province are gradually asserting their pivotal role in the province’s digital transformation journey. Through concrete projects and initiatives, members of the provincial Youth Union and young people are not only integrating technology into youth union activities but also helping spread digital skills and expand residents’ access to digital services, contributing to the development of a digital society across the province.

The People’s Committee of Muong Gion commune is organising a cultural, sports and tourism festival from August 30 to September 1 to celebrate the 81st anniversary of Vietnam’s August Revolution and National Day (September 2, 1945 – 2026).

As the new school year approaches, educational institutions across Son La province are rushing to complete the final preparations to welcome more than 370,000 students back to school. Preparations for facilities, teaching staff and other conditions for teaching and learning have largely been completed, laying a solid foundation for schools to establish routines and effectively carry out the academic year’s tasks from the very beginning.

Muoi Noi commune held the opening ceremony of the Muoi Noi Market on August 29. Attending the event were Dang Ngoc Hau, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee; Cam Ngoc Minh, former Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and former Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee; along with representatives from several provincial departments and agencies and communes across the province.

Son La province has 14 martyrs cemeteries, seven of which contain 579 graves of fallen soldiers whose identities have yet to be determined. As part of the “500-day-and-night campaign to accelerate the search, recovery and identification of martyrs’ remains,” the province has completed DNA sampling for identification purposes at all seven cemeteries.

As part of the ongoing Moc Chau Culture and Tourism Week 2026, a men’s 11-a-side football tournament opened at the stadium in Moc Son ward on August 29.

A trade fair featuring agricultural, forestry and fishery products, processed foods and specialty goods from across Vietnam opened on the evening of August 28 in Moc Son ward as part of the Moc Chau Culture and Tourism Week 2026.

Every year around Vietnam’s National Day or Independence Day on September 2, the Moc Chau plateau comes alive with the sound of traditional Mong flutes and vibrant brocade colours, drawing large numbers of visitors eager to experience the cultural traditions of local ethnic communities. In 2026, the Moc Chau Culture and Tourism Week will be held at the provincial level for the first time, with an expanded scale and a renewed format aimed at strengthening its position as a key cultural and tourism event of Son La province and enhancing the appeal of the highland destination.

The 16th-tenure Son La provincial People’s Council for the 2026-2031 term held its third thematic session on August 28 to consider and decide on matters within its authority. The event was chaired by Lo Minh Hung, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Council; Vi Duc Tho, member of the provincial Party Committee’s Standing Board and Standing Vice Chairman of the People’s Council; and Nguyen Viet Cuong, Vice Chairman of the People’s Council.

With Vietnam’s National Day (September 2) and the opening of the 2026-2027 school year taking place close together, Son La Power Company has put in place measures to ensure safe and stable electricity supplies for political, cultural and social events as well as household needs across the province. The company is also preparing to supply power to schools, with particular attention to 13 inter-level boarding schools in border communes.

The People’s Committee of Chieng An ward on August 8 held a ceremony at Tam Quynh hamlet Cultural House to launch the Thai Ethnic Cultural Club and reenact the Han Khuong Festival.

The provincial Military Command, in coordination with the Muong Lam communal authorities, held a ceremony on August 27 to inaugurate and hand over a “Comrades’ House” to the family of Senior Lieutenant Giang A Cao, an officer in charge of personnel affairs at the Muong Lam communal Military Command.

Hoang Van Nghiem, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Head of the provincial Delegation to the National Assembly, on August 27 presented the 45-year Party membership badge to Cam Ngoc Minh, former Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and former Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee.

A conference was held on August 27 to announce decisions on the establishment of the Party Organisations of the provincial People’s Council and the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front and mass organisations, both under the provincial Party Committee.
