The first phase of the project to upgrade Long Sap Main Border Gate into an international one comprises three major components: site clearance and ground levelling for designated plots in line with the approved master plan; construction of an urban-standard road network; and development of technical infrastructure. All major components have been completed. The investor is working with relevant agencies to finalise the project’s settlement documents in accordance with regulations.
Meanwhile, the second phase will include a national gate combined with an integrated border control station and auxiliary facilities; an accommodation facility for the border guard station; a bonded warehouse; a parking area for vehicles transporting imported goods; an inspection and scanning station; quarantine facilities; cargo inspection and quarantine yards; a preliminary processing area; a cargo unloading area; and an outbound passenger terminal, among other facilities. The second phase is scheduled for implementation from 2026 to 2029.
The provincial leader stressed that completing infrastructure, improving customs clearance capacity and developing logistics services will create more opportunities for Son La’s goods to access the Lao market and other markets in the region. These efforts will also help tap the province’s advantages in farm produce, signature products, construction materials and other goods with cross-border trade potential.
He asked the provincial Border Guard Command and Long Sap commune to closely coordinate in addressing relevant issues. Based on the general and detailed master plans, they were requested to support investors interested in the project, particularly in bidding procedures and land-related matters, ensuring compliance with the law, while promoting investment attraction and selecting investors capable of implementing effective projects./.
