Representing Son La province were Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Dinh Viet, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Cong, and leaders of provincial departments and agencies. The investors included representatives of several Indian companies, Sao Thai Duong Joint Stock Company and TD Vietnam Investment Company Limited.
At the meeting, investor representatives presented their concept, proposed scale and development plans for a complex comprising a bio-methanol production plant and a green energy pellet manufacturing plant. They also discussed the potential investment in a bamboo-based green energy pellet plant in Son La.
According to preliminary research, once operational, the complex is expected to consume about 5,000 tonnes of bamboo feedstock per day and produce 2,300 tonnes of bio-methanol daily, potentially generating annual revenue of more than 300 million USD. Raw materials are expected to be sourced primarily from Son La and material-growing areas in other provinces.
Sao Thai Duong Investment JSC is a pioneer in researching and developing agricultural products made from bamboo in Vietnam. The company operates an industrial pressed-bamboo board manufacturing plant in Mai Ha commune, Phu Tho province. It is currently working with several Indian companies and international partners to explore investment opportunities in a bamboo-based bio-methanol production complex in Vietnam, with estimated investment capital of more than 1.3 billion USD.
Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Dinh Viet addresses the event.
Speaking at the meeting, Chairman Viet outlined Son La's potential and competitive advantages, affirming that the province is committed to creating favourable conditions for businesses seeking investment opportunities, particularly in forestry and green transition.
The province hopes the project will be studied and implemented in a manner that ensures environmental protection, promotes the green transition and improves local people's incomes.
He asked the investors to provide detailed information on plans and timelines for developing bamboo-growing areas, and to proactively coordinate with relevant provincial departments and agencies to review planning frameworks, conduct surveys and identify suitable investment fields and locations.
Based on the survey findings, the companies were requested to submit formal investment proposals so that the province will consider and provide guidance on the next steps in accordance with regulations./.
