The Mai Son district People’s Committee held a conference on December 12 to honour organisations and individuals for their outstanding contributions to poverty reduction in 2024 and to outline goals for 2025.

As part of the National Target Programme for Sustainable Poverty Reduction (2021-2025), the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies (VBSP)’s Mai Son district branch has provided loans to 14,276 households since 2021, of them 3,335 poor, 2,751 near-poor, and 2,567 just getting out of poverty. The district’s total outstanding loans now reach 817 billion VND (32.17 million USD).

By November 2024, the district had eliminated 252 temporary houses for impoverished families—126% of the annual target—at a total cost of 17 billion VND, including 5.8 billion VND raised by all-level Vietnam Fatherland Front committees. The district also organised 482 technical and vocational training sessions for over 19,110 participants, raising the proportion of workers with certificates to an estimated 26%.

Notably, all individuals from impoverished, near-poor, and newly out-of-poverty households seeking assistance were provided with career guidance, labour market information, and job placement support. The district achieved universal health insurance coverage for these households, ensured 85% school attendance for children from poor and near-poor families, and supported over 5,000 households in Mai Son town and 21 communes with electricity subsidies. Access to telecommunications and Internet services was also provided for those in need.

Looking ahead to 2025, the locality aims to further poverty alleviation efforts by enhancing awareness among officials and Party members, promoting the active role of community elders and respected individuals in ethnic minority areas, and encouraging sustainable economic development. The district has set a target of reducing poverty rate by at least 2%.
