Currently, there are about 250,000 people infected with HIV nationwide. With efforts to comprehensively and effectively implement HIV/AIDS prevention and control solutions, Vietnam has reduced the number of new HIV/AIDS infections and related deaths by more than two-thirds compared to 10 years ago. However, HIV/AIDS is still developing complicatedly. The HIV infection rate among drug addicts is over 12.1%, and that among those aged between 16-29 and among men who have sex with men tends to increase very rapidly.
In Son La, since the beginning of this year, the province has detected 173 new HIV/AIDS patients, bringing the total number to 4,600. 2023 is the fifth consecutive year that the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Son La has been controlled and continuously reduced in all three criteria: the number of newly detected HIV infections, the number of AIDS patients and the number of fatalities related to AIDS. The HIV infection rate in the population is always kept below 0.4%.
With the theme "Creative Community - Determined to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030", in the coming time, Son La province will continue to pay attention to investing in, allocating budget, and ensuring finance for the prevention and control work; and mainstream it into local socio-economic development plans. The health sector will strengthen communication work so that all people understand and do not discriminate against people with HIV/AIDS, while well implementing coordination in medical examination and treatment, ensuring that all people receive health care, and creating maximum conditions for people to access HIV preventive services.
