Provincial Forest Protection and Development Fund, Farmers' Association sign coordination regulations

The Forest Protection and Development Fund and the Farmers' Association of Son La province on November 12 signed an agreement on cooperation regulations for the 2024-2027 period.

During this period, the parties will work together to raise public awareness and encourage officials and members of the Farmers' Association at all levels to effectively implement the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws on agriculture, farmers, and rural development.

The focus will be on encouraging farmer members who are forest owners and communities to effectively use forest environmental service payments for forest management, protection, and development, thus improving living standards, and supporting the implementation of sustainable forestry development programmes.

The leaders of the Forest Protection and Development Fund and the Farmers' Association of Son La province sign the cooperation agreement.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Nguyen Thanh Cong, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, suggested that the Forest Protection and Development Fund and the Farmers' Association explore and developing models for growing medicinal plants and developing non-timber trees under the forest canopy, using environmental service payments in line with the province's socio-economic development plans.

He emphasised the importance of promoting the application of scientific, technical, and technological advances in production and livelihood development under the forest canopy, maximizing benefits from environmental service payments.

It is necessary to boost sustainable forest management, protection, and development to generate forest carbon credits and contribute to the carbon market, creating additional income for farmers who are forest owners, he noted.
