Son La raises community awareness of forest management and protection

The provincial Union of Science and Technology Associations on January 5 coordinated with the provincial Forest Protection and Development Fund to organize a conference to summarize the project "Promoting effective management of community forests associated with preserving intangible cultural values of ethnic minorities in Son La province".

The project was implemented from July 2022 to November 2023 in Ngoc Chien commune, Muong La district; Suoi Bang commune, Van Ho district; Muong Sang commune, Moc Chau district; and Long He commune, Thuan Chau district, with a total cost of over 1 billion VND (41,000 USD).

It aimed to raise community awareness of forest management and protection, ecological environment protection and biodiversity conservation. It also developed a set of regulations for management and effective use of forest environmental service fees to manage and protect forests and improve people's livelihoods.

At the same time, it promoted effective management of community forests, as well as preserved customs, rituals, beliefs and typical cultural features of ethnic groups.

According to specialized agencies, the project's contents were completed on schedule and the capacity of project participants was improved. The success of the project lays a basis for the provincial Union of Science and Technology Associations and the provincial Forest Protection and Development Fund to continue implementing other community forest protection projects in the coming time.
