More than half a century after national reunification, the Party and State continue to prioritise efforts to search for, recover and identify the remains of fallen soldiers. Advances in science and technology, particularly DNA testing, are offering new hope of identifying martyrs whose identities remain unknown, honouring those who laid down their lives for national independence and bringing comfort to their families.

The provincial Sponsorship Association held its first Congress for the 2026–2031 term on July 28. Attending the event were Tran Thi Dung, Standing Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Association for the Support of Persons with Disabilities; Do Hong Lam, Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin; leaders of provincial departments and agencies; and 113 delegates representing association members from across the province.

On the occasion of the 79th Anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947 – 2026), representaties from the provincial Cooperative Alliance on July 27 visited and presented gifts to cooperatives managed by veterans in Mai Son commune.

The event was jointly organised by the youth unions of To Hieu ward, Tay Bac University, the provincial Military Command, and Viettel Son La.

The Youth Union of the provincial Party Agencies on July 26 offered incense in memory of fallen heroes at the Son La Prison Martyrs' Cemetery on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947 – 2026).

The Son La provincial Youth Union on July 26 mobilised more than 1,500 members from all 79 chapters to simultaneously join the “Green Sunday” campaign, carrying out a wide range of meaningful activities for the community and in tribute to fallen heroes.

The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Chieng An ward, in coordination with the provincial Centre for Disease Control, the Youth Union of the Mobile Police Division under the provincial Department of Public Security, and the Chieng An ward Women's Union, on July 24 organised a series of activities to honour fallen heroes and individuals who rendered meritorious service to the revolutionary cause in the ward.

Viettel Networks' telecommunications infrastructure project management board on July 24 inaugurated and handed over a new classroom building at the Pac Be hamlet campus of Ban Mai Kindergarten in Suoi To commune.

The provincial Military Command on July 24 launched an 80-day peak emulation campaign for the “three bests” to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Military Region 2 Armed Forces (October 19, 1946–2026).

The Standing Board of the provincial Youth Union, in collaboration with the US’s Medical Aid Project (MAP) and Canada-based Medical Aid for Vietnam (EMAS), has organised a programme to provide free medical check-ups, health consultations, and medicines for poor households, policy beneficiary families, and residents of To Mua, Van Ho, Song Khua, Chieng Son, and Xuan Nha communes.

Battalion 2 of Mobile Police Regiment No. 2 under the Ministry of Public Security on July 20 deployed 50 officers and personnel to Ngoc Chien commune to assist local residents in restoring their lives following severe flooding.

The Vietnam Rubber Trade Union and the Vietnam Rubber Group, in coordination with Son La Rubber JSC, visited and provided financial assistance to the company's employees in Muong La Team who were affected by recent storms and flooding.

The Son La provincial Department of Public Security launched a peak campaign to collect DNA samples from relatives of fallen soldiers whose identities have not yet been confirmed across the province on July 19.

In response to the Prime Minister's Official Dispatch No. 49/CD-TTg dated July 17, 2026 on measures to cope with heavy rain in the northern mountainous region, the Chairman of the provincial People's Committee has issued an official dispatch calling for intensified preparedness for heavy rainfall, flooding, landslides, and flash floods across the province.
