Football tournament celebrates 80th anniversary of Vietnam People's Army

The Muong Leo Border Guard Station in Sop Cop district on December 16 kicked off a men’s football tournament to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - 2024) and the 35th anniversary of the All-People Defence Festival (December 22, 1989 - 2024).

The tournament featured eight teams, with 100 athletes who are officers, soldiers, teachers, and youth union members from local schools and hamlets in Muong Leo commune. The event attracted a large crowd of local residents who came to cheer for the teams. It will run for six days, with the teams divided into two groups, competing in a round-robin format. The top two teams from each group will advance to the final.

The tournament is a useful sporting activity, providing an opportunity for exchange, sharing, and learning among the border guards, local officials, and mass organisations in the commune. It also promotes physical fitness and sportsmanship, and creates a joyful and motivating atmosphere, encouraging participants to successfully complete their assigned tasks.
