National Youth Weightlifting Championship 2026 opens in Son La

The Son La Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in coordination with the Vietnam Bodybuilding & Weightlifting Federation, held the opening ceremony of the National Youth Weightlifting Championship 2026 in Thao Nguyen ward on March 20.

The competition features 221 weightlifters aged 13-16 from 26 provinces and cities across the country. They compete in the clean and jerk and snatch events, with weight categories of 56kg, 60kg, 65kg, 71kg, 79kg, and over 79kg for men, and 44kg, 48kg, 53kg, 58kg, 63kg, and over 63kg for women.

Following the opening ceremony, the athletes began competing in their respective weight categories. With full dedication and adherence to the competition rules, they delivered exciting and intense performances for the audience.

Running for five days, from March 20 to 24, the championship serves as an opportunity to evaluate the training of young athletes from local units nationwide, allow athletes to exchange experience, compete, and improve their professional skills. At the same time, it helps identify young talents for the development of the national youth team.
