Attending the ceremony were Cha A Cua, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and President of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee; leaders of the provincial Military Command, Department of Home Affairs, and the communes of Song Ma and Chieng Khoong; as well as armed forces and local residents.
The delegates laid wreaths, offered incense and observed a minute of silence in tribute to the martyrs, expressing profound gratitude for their great contributions and sacrifices for the nation’s independence and freedom.
Following the memorial service, the martyrs’ remains were buried at the Song Ma Martyrs’ Cemetery in accordance with prescribed protocols.
Earlier, based on information provided by local residents, authorities identified a family garden belonging to Deo Van Thiem in Cang Kieng hamlet, Chieng Khoong commune, as the burial site of the two martyrs. The provincial Steering Committee worked with the Chieng Khoong communal People’s Committee to mobilise local militia and self-defence forces to search the areas identified as possible burial sites.
After five days of searching and excavation, the remains of the two martyrs, along with personal items, were recovered. Forensic samples were collected for DNA testing to identify the martyrs, and the remains were handed over to Song Ma commune for burial./.
