After relocating residents for the construction of the Son La hydropower plant, Muong Chien commune, Quynh Nhai district now has three hamlets, with more than 400 households and nearly 1,800 people.

Members of the Yen Chau Ethnic Culture Preservation Group, established in 2018, have actively studied and collected documents on the ancient Thai script, traditional customs, and spiritual festivals of the Thai and Kho Mu ethnic minorities to include them in a book.

The brocade weaving of the Thai ethnic people in Yen Chau has a long history. The skillfulness and resourcefulness of Thai ethnic women are reflected in the fabric they weave. To create nice brocade items, Thai women have to take many steps that require meticulousness from picking, drying, carding, twisting, rolling and spinning cotton to dyeing, colour mixing and skillfully embroidering. When getting married, every girl must have beautiful scarves and blankets as gifts to their parents-in-law.

A photo exhibition themed "Son La Coffee - The journey to create a brand" opened at Tay Bac Square, Son La city on October 21, as part of the activities of the first Son La Coffee Festival 2023.

Pang A festival is a unique culture and belief of the La Ha ethnic minority group in Quynh Nhai, Thuan Chau and Muong La districts of Son La province. It aims to pray for good crops, health and luck for people and to express gratitude to the gods and traditional healers who have contributed to protecting locals.

Sơn La is home to 12 ethnic groups, each with their own cultural identities. Apart from preserving traditional festivals, local departments and agencies have paid attention to the conservation and promotion of folk sports and games, thus contributing to promoting the unique culture of Son La.

Muong Va commune in Sop Cop district organised the “Khau ho” festival on September 29-30, attracting crowds of locals and tourists.

Leaf flute has a clear and melodious sound like the song of a nightingale. The Mong ethnic people use the sound of a musical leaf to express their feelings and emotions towards the nature, sentiments between people and people, as well as the love between couples.

As a commune strong in community-based tourism, in recent years, the cultural and mass art movement in Ngoc Chien commune of Muong La district has received due attention.
