The contest saw the participation of 56 people, both men and women of different ages, from 14 teams of 14 communes in Van Ho district.
Within 60 minutes, the contestants used tools and even their bare hands to catch fish in the stream section determined by organisers. The judgement was made based on the amount of fish captured by each team.
Right after a representative from the organising board beat the drum to kick-start the contest, the participants quickly showed off their fishing experience and skills. The competition attracted throngs of festival-goers cheering for the teams, making the atmosphere more exciting.
The competition reflected daily cultural activities maintained by generations of the Thai ethnic people whose lives are associated with rivers, streams, and fields. It was also set to maintain and honour the traditional cultural features of residents in wet rice farming areas, their cuisine and long-standing customs./.
