As part of the activities of the Muong La Hawthorn Flower Festival 2024, many cultural, art and sports activities took place in Nam Nghep and Muong Chien hamlets, Ngoc Chien commune, attracting crowds of residents and tourists.

Visitors to the Son tra (Hawthorn) Flower Festival 2024 in Muong La district had a chance to experience paragliding in Ngoc Chien commune, dubbed a “fairyland” thanks to its beautiful landscapes and ethnic cultural traits.

A photo and painting exhibition opened in Muong Chien hamlet, Ngoc Chien commune on March 9, as part of the Son tra (Hawthorn) Flower Festival in Son La district. 

Son La province now has 16 national intangible cultural heritages recognised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

In the context of modern cultural interference, the Kho Mu ethnic people in Cang On hamlet, Muong Va commune, Sop Cop district still preserve and promote traditional values through their costumes, folk songs, musical instruments, festivals and beliefs.

A host of activities were held at the Son La Museum on February 25, featuring traditional cultural traits during the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.

The Son La provincial Department of Education and Training on February 25 organised an exam to select excellent high school students at the provincial level in the 2023-2024 school year at the Son La High School for the Gifted and the Chieng Sinh High School.

‘Khen be’, a type of panpipe, has been associated with the Thai ethnic people in Yen Chau district for a long time. Chieng Cang commune in Song Ma district on February 22 held the 2024 “Cau mua’ festival to pray for bumper crops.

The rain praying festival of the White Thai people in Muong Sang commune, Moc Chau district was included in the list of national intangible cultural heritages announced by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on February 21.

An incense-offering festival was held at the temple dedicated to Hai Ba Trung ( Trung Sisters: Trung Trac and Trung Nhi) in Thong Nhat hamlet, Chieng Khuong commune, Song Ma district, on February 21.

Community cultural performances of ethnic groups have taken place within the framework of the Quynh Nhai Culture, Sports and Tourism Week 2024, attracting a large number of local people and tourists.

The Dao Tien ethnic people in Son La province have a long and unique culture expressed in rituals, traditional costumes, voice and script. In particular, the art of decorating patterns on Dao Tien ethnic people's costumes was recently included in the list of national intangible cultural heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, bringing pride to the locals. It is also great motivation to encourage them to continue to preserve and promote the good values of their culture.

Quynh Nhai district held an incense offering ceremony at its spiritual and cultural tourist site on February 17 morning.

The Khai ha (going down to the field) festival was held in Mo hamlet, Tan Lang commune, Phu Yen district on February 16, the seventh day of the Lunar New Year. This was the first time that Tan Lang had organised such festival at the communal level.
