Giving wings to ethnic minority students’ dreams

These efforts have gradually enhanced the quality of education and helped generations of ethnic minority students fulfill their dreams.

Upon arriving at the school, one is immediately impressed by its green, clean, and beautiful campus, as well as the spacious, modern facilities that meet the needs of teaching and learning. The school has recently constructed a new three-story dormitory with 21 rooms; renovated a three-story dormitory with 39 rooms; and upgraded the library, eight classrooms, the multi-purpose building, and the canteen. Additionally, the school has paved the dormitory area with concrete and tiles, and purchased supplementary textbooks, computers, whiteboards, and televisions to support the students' learning and living needs.

According to teacher Tran Trung Chinh, the school's principal, to improve the quality of teaching and learning, the school has focused on effectively implementing various initiatives such as the “Good Teaching - Good Learning” movement and “Innovation and Creativity in Teaching”, and encouraging students to study and follow the thoughts, ethics, and style of President Ho Chi Minh. “We are committed to training teachers so that ‘every teacher is a role model in morality, self-learning, and creativity,’ while building a friendly school with active students,” he noted.

Each year, the school assigns teachers to foster talented and gifted students, aiming to form teams for district- and provincial-level academic competitions. At the same time, it also develops plans to support students with weaker academic performance. Over the past five years, the school has seen 71 students win provincial-level academic prizes and 45 others obtain district-level prizes, alongside two third-place awards in provincial-level science and technology competitions. The school has boasted a high academic achievement rate, with over 68% of students ranked as good or excellent, 99% of students achieving good or excellent behavior, and 100% of 12th-grade students graduating.

In addition to academics, the school has placed a strong emphasis on physical education and preserving cultural identity through extracurricular activities, traditional dancing and singing competitions, and ethnic attire shows; encouraging students to collect local folk culture; and fostering the use of native languages. The school has also organised traditional festivals and required teachers and students to wear ethnic costumes at the start of the week. Moreover, four extracurricular clubs with more than 200 students have actively participated in various skill development activities.

Teacher Le Thuy Duong, in charge of the school's boarding activities, shared: "Studying at a boarding school, students live away from home. We understand that we are not only teachers who impart knowledge but also parents who care for and encourage the students, creating a family-like atmosphere. We treat the students as if they were our own children."

Hoang Khanh Diep, a 6B grader, said: "At first, when I just started school, I really missed home. However, after being cared for and supported by the teachers, as well as receiving encouragement from my friends, after two months, I was able to adapt to the collective environment and the teaching methods of the teachers. I always promise to try my best to overcome difficulties, and study hard, so that I can become a useful citizen in the future."

Continuing to innovate teaching methods and improve the quality of management, teaching, and learning, the Moc Chau Boarding Secondary and High School for Ethnic Minority Students focuses on educating students about ethics, life skills, and the beautiful traditions of the ethnic groups. The school ensures the proper policies and benefits for students and regularly organises cultural, art, and sports activities. The goal is to build the school into a friendly, safe, and healthy environment, truly deserving a nurturing place for students from ethnic minority communities.
