The opening ceremony of the first Long Phieng Plum Festival 2026.
Attending the event were Luong Thi Van Anh, member of the provincial Party Committee’s Standing Board and head of the provincial Party Committee’s Internal Affairs Board; leaders of several provincial departments and agencies; a large number of local residents, representatives of cooperatives, and tourists; as well as representatives from Mong Nam commune, Xiengkhor district, Laos.
Lu Van Chung, Chairman of the Long Phieng commune People’s Committee, delivers the opening speech at the festival.
Long Phieng commune currently has 1,035 hectares of plum orchards, with an estimated production of more than 9,600 tonnes in 2026. In recent years, local residents have focused on applying technical advances to production and adopting safe, sustainable farming practices, contributing to improved product quality and value.
To date, the commune has harvested around 3,500 tonnes of plums, generating more than 110 billion VND (4.18 million USD) in value. The local plums are mainly consumed in wholesale markets both inside and outside the province.
The festival takes place over two days, May 9–10, featuring a variety of activities such as plum-picking competitions, agricultural product display and promotion contests, presentations introducing Long Phieng, sports activities, cultural performances showcasing ethnic traditions, and tours and hands-on experiences at plum orchards.
