Seminar seeks to improve productivity, promote market access for Yen Son plum

The Son La provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, in coordination with the People’s Committee of Yen Son commune, on May 22 organised a seminar on improving productivity and product quality, and promoting market access for plum products in Yen Son commune in 2026.

At the seminar on improving productivity and product quality, and promoting market access for plum products in Yen Son commune in 2026.

Plum has become the main crop of Yen Son commune, covering nearly 630 hectares and contributing to higher incomes and improved living standards for local residents. However, production and sale still face many challenges, including small-scale production, unstable linkages, limited application of science, technology, and digital transformation; a lack of deeply processed products, unstable consumer markets; and difficulties in brand building, planting area codes, and product traceability.

Delegates attend the seminar.

At the workshop, delegates focused their presentations and discussions on several key topics, including orientations for sustainable crop development associated with the processing industry in Son La province for the 2026–2030 period; challenges and opportunities for Son La plum; and new high-tech cultivation techniques that meet export standards.

Discussions also included orientations for safe, organic, and sustainable plum production; production linkages along the value chain to promote deep processing and product sale; building and developing the “Yen Son Plum” brand; application of science, technology, and digital transformation in agricultural production and sale; and proposals for mechanisms and policies to support production development.

A leader of the Rural Development Sub-Department under the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment delivers a presentation at the workshop.

Also at the event, participants proposed various solutions regarding mechanisms and policies to support production development, including financial assistance, scientific and technical support, and trade promotion activities, thereby contributing to improving the productivity, quality, and value of Yen Son plum products in the coming period.
