Since the beginning of 2024, health facilities in Son La province have well organized examination, treatment and emergency; and improved the quality of medical services.

In January, Son La province created jobs and increased income for 1,061 labourers, and supported seven to work abroad for a fixed term.

Muong La district on February 19 held a ceremony in Pi Toong commune to launch a tree planting festival and the “All people engage in irrigation” movement.

Women's unions at all levels in Thuan Chau district have maintained 236 self-managed roads and mobilised over 7,000 members and women to clear 21 km of rural roads and plant 26 new flower routes. 

In 2013-2023, Son La province had 1,054 projects of students participating in science and technology competitions at all levels. 

The Education Promotion Association of Son La province in January presented 438 gifts and scholarships worth over 224 million VND (9,169 USD) to students in difficult circumstances and remote areas, with outstanding academic achievements, along with teachers and students who scored high results in competitions.

Son La city’s Traffic Safety Committee held a ceremony at Tay Bac (Northwest) Square on January 29 to launch the Traffic Safety Year 2024.

Son La province’s Federation of Labour, in collaboration with the provincial Post Office, units and businesses, organised booths offering free products and those with attractive discounts for labourers on January 28 in Mai Son district.

The Son La College on January 28 organised a contest to wrap banh chung (square sticky rice cake) and learn about Vietnamese traditional Tet, attracting the participation of seven teams of 70 Lao students learning at the college.

The provincial Military Command on January 20-21 coordinated with the provincial Youth Union, the People's Committee of Muong La district and a number of agencies, units and benefactors in organising a programme to bring a warm Lunar New Year (Tet) to residents in Chieng Lao commune, Muong La district.

The Federation of Labour of Son La city on January 20 held a gathering for its members and labourers who are in difficult circumstances on the occasion of the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.

The Humanitarian Television Center and the Red Cross Society of Son La province, the Phu Yen district People's Committee, units and sponsors organised a Lunar New Year (Tet) programme on January 19 and 20 in Huy Tan commune, Phu Yen district.

As of December 2023, Son La province had 396 out of 597 schools meeting national standards, reaching 66.33%, 4.13% higher than the set target.

Last year, the provincial Centre for Disease Control received and distributed batches of vitamin A in service of the vitamin A supplementation campaign for children and postpartum women.

Quang Huy commune in Phu Yen district on January 16 held a ceremony to announce Chieng Thuong hamlet as meeting new-style and model new-style rural area standards in 2023. This is the second hamlet in the district recognised as a model new-style rural area.

In 2023, the provincial library added more than 16,000 new copies to its bookshelves, and collected 665 geographical documents, serving more than 583,000 readers.

In 2023, 5,524 people in Son La province obtained loans worth 341 billion VND (13.9 million USD) to improve production. Of these, 308 got loans from the National Employment Fund, 4,050 from the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies, and 1,166 from local trust funds. 

The People’s Committee of Yen Chau district on January 12 held a ceremony to announce the decision of the Chairperson of the provincial People’s Committee recognising Long Phieng commune as a new-style rural area in 2023.

The provincial Youth Union and Youth Federation on January 12 organized a programme entitled “Tet (Lunar New Year) 2024 for Workers” at the Anh Duong Garment Joint Stock Company in It Ong town, Muong La district.

In 2023, the area of newly planted forests throughout the province reached 2,533.5 hectares, including 1,835.7 hectares of production forests and 697.8 hectares of special-use and protective forests.
