The People's Committee of Son La province has appointed Ha Thi Ngoc Yen as Director of the provincial Department of Science and Technology, effective August 1, 2026. The appointment was announced at a ceremony on August 4 following a decision signed by the Chairman of the provincial People's Committee on July 31.

Three children who were swept away by flash floods in Gia Phu commune on the evening of August 1 were found after an overnight search operation led by provincial authorities. The body of the last missing child was recovered at 7:40 a.m. on August 2, concluding the rescue effort.

The Son La provincial Military Command on July 31 held a conference to hand over the duties of the Political Commissar. The event was co-chaired by Hoang Van Nghiem, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, head of the provincial delegation of National Assembly deputies, and Secretary of the provincial Military Command’s Party Committee, and Lieut. Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Dinh Viet on July 30 chaired a ceremony to sign a contract for the Van Ho cloudscape therapeutic eco-urban area project. A delegation of provincial leaders on July 27 offered flowers and incense at the Monument “Uncle Ho and the Ethnic Groups of the Northwestern Region” and President Ho Chi Minh Temple at Tay Bac (Northwest) Square; paid tribute at the Son La Prison Martyrs’ Cemetery; and offered incense in memory of heroic martyrs in Son La Prison on the occasion of the 79th War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day (July 27, 1947 – 2026).

An exhibition highlighting the 1943 prison break opened at the Son La Prison special national relic site on July 27 as part of the province's 2026 "Ve Nguon" (Back to the Roots) commemorative programme.
