Lang Pang A Festival of La Ha ethnic group in Muong Khieng commune re-enacted

The Lang Pang A Festival of the La Ha ethnic group was re-enacted at the community cultural house of Hien village, Muong Khieng commune on April 11.

The ceremonial part of the festival was conducted solemnly with traditional rituals imbued with spiritual significance. At the centre of the ceremony is the “Xang pang” ritual tree, a sacred symbol in the spiritual life of the La Ha people. The tree is decorated with various everyday items and offerings, including a hooked branch symbolising a black buffalo and a banana tree representing a white buffalo.

While the shaman performed the rituals, villagers participated in traditional cultural activities such as rain-praying dances, scarf and sword dances, and drinking “ruou can” (fermented rice wine drunk through long bamboo straws). The rhythmic sounds of traditional percussion instruments blended with the graceful xoe dances of young men and women, creating a lively and festive atmosphere.
