Provincial leaders inspect implementation of Son La General Hospital's second facility project

Vice Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Dinh Viet, and Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Ha Trung Chien on May 19 surveyed the construction and upgrading of the second campus of the Son La provincial General Hospital.

Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Dinh Viet and the delegation survey the proposed site for the implementation of the project on the construction and upgrading of the second campus of the Son La provincial General Hospital.

According to a report, in 2024, the former Son La city approved a policy to establish a city general hospital at the site of the old hospital in order to meet local residents’ healthcare and medical examination needs. However, following the implementation of the two-tier local administration model, the plan was no longer considered appropriate.

Accordingly, the province has directed the adjustment of the project’s objective toward investing in upgrading the second facility of the Son La provincial General Hospital in order to effectively utilise the existing infrastructure, management apparatus, human resources, and medical equipment.

Leaders of the provincial People’s Committee and relevant departments and agencies conduct a field survey of the area proposed for the implementation of the project.

At present, the hospital has had its capacity adjusted from 550 to 750 beds to meet the growing demand for medical check-ups and healthcare services among residents.

Under the proposed plan, the project will comprehensively renovate and repair multiple facilities, including a four-story outpatient department building, the emergency department building, the internal medicine A department building, the interdepartmental building, the administrative building, the waste treatment operation area, and other auxiliary works.

At the same time, the scale of operations will be expanded to seven departments with a capacity of 100 beds.

Speaking at the survey session, Chairman Viet requested relevant departments and agencies to continue reviewing and finalising the investment plan in line with actual needs and available resources; study the arrangement of departments, rooms, equipment, and human resources to improve the effectiveness of medical examination and treatment and reduce pressure on the hospital’s main facility.

At the same time, attention should be paid to investing in infrastructure, landscape, and a green, clean, and beautiful environment to facilitate people’s access to high-quality healthcare services.
