Provincial Vice Chairman inspects substandard housing eradication in Chieng Mai commune

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Dang Ngoc Hau, together with a provincial working delegation, on February 5 inspected the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses arising in 2025 in Chieng Mai commune.

The provincial working delegation visits a household in Pung hamlet, Chieng Mai commune that received support to build a new house under the Ministry of Public Security’s programme on temporary housing elimination.

Implementing the project on eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses launched by the Ministry of Public Security, Chieng Mai commune conducted reviews and assessments from the grassroots level, ensuring right beneficiaries and compliance with regulations, and issued decisions approving the list of eligible households for support.

The commune identified 13 poor and near-poor households facing housing difficulties due to dilapidated houses or damage caused by natural disasters, all of which met eligibility criteria and had urgent housing needs under the Ministry of Public Security’s support project, with a support level of 60 million VND (2,312 USD) per house. To date, all 13 households have completed house construction, meeting the “three-solid” criteria, and are finalising acceptance procedures for handover to the families.

In addition to support from the Ministry of Public Security’s project, Chieng Mai commune provided emergency assistance of 40 million VND in accordance with the Government’s Decree No. 20/2021/ND-CP dated March 15, 2021, which stipulates social assistance policies for social protection beneficiaries in cases of houses completely destroyed by fire; and coordinated with the provincial Military Command to provide 100 million VND in support to a household whose house collapsed completely due to floods. To date, both households have completed construction and are expected to be finalised before the Lunar New Year (Tet) 2026.

Vice Chairman Hau requested provincial departments, sectors, and local authorities to focus on supporting households in completing their houses and disbursing payments before the Lunar New Year. Attention should also be paid to land use right certificate issuance and to helping residents secure stable livelihoods and achieve sustainable poverty reduction.

The locality was urged to continue reviewing actual needs, and to coordinate with the Department of Ethnic and Religious Affairs to develop plans and support measures for the elimination of newly arising temporary and dilapidated houses in 2026.
