The project on investment in infrastructure construction at Son La province’s Chieng Khuong Main Border Gate aims to ensure alignment with the master plan for border gates along the Vietnam–Laos land border for the 2021–2030 period, with a vision to 2050; the provincial master plan for the 2021–2030 period, with a vision to 2050; and the approved adjusted general construction plan at a 1/2,000 scale for the former Chieng Khuong township of the former Song Ma district, up to 2040.

A leader of the Department of Foreign Affairs speaks at the event.

The goal is to develop the Chieng Khuong Main Border Gate into a gateway for trade, commerce, and border services with a synchronous and modern infrastructure system. The project seeks to leverage the potential and advantages of the southwestern region of Son La province, thereby promoting economic development in border areas, boosting tourism, improving land-use efficiency and quality of life, and protecting the environment. It will also serve as a basis for implementing construction works meeting the standards of a main border gate; managing and mobilising investment resources; contributing to national defence and security, safeguarding territorial sovereignty and political security, enhancing international cooperation and friendship exchanges, and building a strong defence system in the area.

A leader of the Department of Finance speaks at the working session.

With the orientation of upgrading Chieng Khuong border gate into an international one, the provincial Border Guard Command has directed specialised agencies to review legal documents, study procedures, and coordinate with departments, sectors, customs authorities, Chieng Khuong commune, and relevant units to review and prepare necessary contents and requirements for the detailed planning of the Chieng Khuong Main Border Gate.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman Hau requested the provincial Border Guard Command and relevant departments and agencies to urgently complete the dossier proposing the investment policy in accordance with regulations and submit it to competent authorities for consideration and decision-making.

He also urged speeding up the completion of the detailed planning dossier for submission and approval; reviewing and proposing the inclusion of the project in the public investment plan for the 2026–2030 period and the 2026 annual plan; proactively balancing and allocating capital to ensure progress and quality; focusing on site clearance; and promoting digital transformation toward building a smart border gate.
