On April 22, the Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee issued a decision approving a plan to develop the "traffic safety commune/ward" model across Son La province.

In 2026, 12 communes and wards, namely To Hieu, Moc Son, Phu Yen, Bac Yen, Mai Son, Yen Chau, Van Ho, Song Ma, Sop Cop, Thuan Chau, Quynh Nhai and Muong La, will be selected to pilot the model.

The remaining 63 communes and wards will proactively study the model and prepare the necessary conditions for the rollout. After one year, authorities will conduct a review to assess its effectiveness, draw lessons and consider scaling up the model across the province.

Delegates attend the conference.

The criteria for evaluating the model’s performance are developed in a specific and comprehensive manner, including “Traffic safety commune/ward”; “Traffic safety residential area”; “Traffic safety agency, unit and school”; “Traffic safety enterprise”; “Traffic safety self-managed road”; and “Traffic safety household.”

At the conference, decisions were announced on the establishment of the “Traffic safety commune/ward” model across Son La province; the task force for implementing the model; and the “Traffic Safety” criteria for communes and wards, households, residential areas, agencies, units, schools, enterprises, and self-managed roads across the province.

Nguyen Minh Tien, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, addresses the conference.

Addressing the conference, Vice Chairman Tien called on departments, agencies, mass organisations, and communes/wards to raise awareness and responsibility among local Party committees and authorities in implementing the model; ensure the rollout is substantive, effective and aligned with local conditions.

They were asked to promote the core role of the police force while strengthening inter-agency coordination to ensure consistency and effectiveness; step up public communication and build a traffic culture among the population; and effectively implement pilot areas as a basis for scaling up the model across the province.

Leaders of communes and wards sign a competition covenant.
