Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day to be organised with diverse activities

Member of the provincial Party Committee's Standing Board and Permanent Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Ha Trung Chien on April 6 chaired a meeting on the organisation of the 5th Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day 2026 in Son La province. The meeting also saw the presence of representatives of relevant departments and agencies, as well as To Hieu, Chieng Sinh, Chieng An, and Chieng Coi wards, along with teachers and students of several local schools.

Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day on April 21 is an important cultural event for book lovers and the wider community. It is an occasion to honour the value of books and affirm their position, role, and importance in social life; recognise those involved in collecting, writing, publishing, distributing, and preserving books; and raise the responsibility of authorities at all levels, sectors, and society as a whole in building and developing a reading culture.

At the event, delegates discussed and made proposals to develop an organisation plan. The Day is expected to mobilise the participation of departments, sectors, mass organisations, schools, armed forces, and localities across the province.

A wide range of activities will be organised with the aim of honouring the value of books and reading, as well as promoting innovation, science, and technology, such as book exhibitions and introductions, the “House of Wisdom” space, digital transformation, STEM and robotics booths, book presentation contests, the “Ring the Golden Bell” competition, along with art performances and sports exchanges.

The meeting also reached an agreement on the theme of the event, its activities, schedule, venue, communication and promotional work, the development of a detailed plan, and the assignment of specific tasks to each unit, ensuring that the event is organised in an innovative and creative manner, truly honouring and spreading the reading culture alongside the spirit of digital transformation in the new period.

In his concluding remarks, Chien requested departments, sectors, telecommunications units, and schools to actively coordinate in implementing assigned tasks; organise exhibition booths in an innovative and creative manner; and develop specific plans for holding side activities to ensure effectiveness and attractiveness.

He also urged relevant departments to study and give advice on budget estimates, and promptly finalise the overall plan and implementation scenarios for dissemination to all units, ensuring the successful organisation of the event and its wide-reaching impact.
