Delegation from Houaphanh Department of Home Affairs visits Son La

A delegation from the Department of Home Affairs of Laos’ Houaphanh province on June 23 visited and held a working session with the Department of Ethnic and Religious Affairs of Son La province.

The Son La Department of Ethnic and Religious Affairs and the Houaphanh Department of Home Affairs exchange experience at the working session.

In the 2023–2025 period, the Son La Department of Ethnic and Religious Affairs has closely coordinated with the Houaphanh Department of Home Affairs in exchanging experience on ethnic and religious work; promoting dissemination of legal regulations, policies, and guidelines of both countries to help people in border areas understand and avoid violations such as illegal cultivation and settlement, smuggling, drug trafficking, illegal migration, unregistered marriage, and unauthorised religious activities.

At the same time, both sides have jointly proposed solutions to arising issues related to ethnicity and religion in accordance with national laws, international practices, and the regulations agreed upon by Vietnam and Laos.

Nguyen Viet Hung, Director of the Son La Department of Ethnic and Religious Affairs, speaks at the working session.

At the session, leaders of the Son La and Houaphanh departments exchanged information on the current situation of ethnic groups and religions; support policies for ethnic minorities; and shared experience in promoting and encouraging the implementation of Party and State policies.

The Director of the Son La Department of Ethnic and Religious Affairs also provided information about the organisational structure of the department, internal restructuring, and the two-tier local government model in Son La province.

Director of the Houaphanh Department of Home Affairs Phetma Nyphon addresses the function.

For the 2025–2027 period, both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation, focusing on sharing information regarding ethnic and religious affairs; coordinating efforts to disseminate laws, encourage citizens to maintain security and order, and prevent complex issues along the border area; and raising awareness and ensuring strict compliance with the bilateral national border agreement between the two countries.

The Houaphanh Department of Home Affairs presents a gift to the Son La Department of Ethnic and Religious Affairs.
