Climate change mitigation and adaptation in agriculture and forestry project’s second phase launched

The provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in collaboration with the Centre for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD), on August 30 launched the second phase of the "Integrating climate change mitigation and adaptation in agriculture and forestry in the northwestern mountainous region” project.

The second phase has a total budget of over 18.7 billion VND (751,760 USD), sponsored by Bread for the World - a German non-governmental organisation.

The project is being carried out by the SRD in the five communes of Muoi Noi, Bon Phang, Nam Lau, Chieng Pha and Phong Lap of Thuan Chau district from August 2024 to December 2026. Over 32,000 people are expected directly and indirectly benefiting from the project, with 80% of direct beneficiaries applying agricultural and agroforestry models adaptive to climate change introduced by the project.

The signing of a cooperation agreement on project implementation between the SRD, the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the provincial Farmers' Association.

At the meeting, the SRD introduced, shared and agreed with localities and stakeholders on the project's objectives, working principles, intervention activities, roles, responsibilities and benefits when participating in the project.

Accordingly, the project will be implemented through activities such as basic climate risk investigation and assessment in the five communes; training on reusing agricultural by-products and organising field trips to learn from experience in circular economic models; establishing production cooperation groups; supporting the initiation of circular economic models to adapt to climate change; training on forest protection, planting and regeneration and supporting the planting of 100 hectares of forest in these communes.
