Biomass corn is a type of corn harvested at the wax ripening stage, used as feed for buffaloes and cows. In recent years, the area of biomass corn in Moc Chau has been expanded, especially in the communes with sloping farming land. Particularly, the district counts over 25,000 dairy cows that need approximately 200,000 tonnes of biomass corn each year, of which around 30,000 tonnes are produced by Moc Chau Dairy Cattle Breeding JSC and local farmers, and the remaining are purchased from outside partners.

Last year, the total maize area in Moc Chau stood at 10,238 hectares, with 1,862 hectares dedicated to biomass corn, mainly in the places with favourable terrain and transportation, such as Moc Chau Farm town and Dong Sang, Muong Sang, Tan Lap, Phieng Luong, Chieng Son, and Chieng Khua communes. The total yield of biomass corn reached over 67,000 tonnes. Moc Chau has rolled out such model in Tan Hop commune, involving 47 households with 34,400 hectares in Na Sanh and Na Muong hamlets. The district has earmarked nearly 80 million VND (3,250 USD) for the model, while Moc Chau Dairy Cattle Breeding JSC contributed 207 tonnes of fertilisers, and Vietnam Biomass Corn JSC provided seeds, materials, workforce, and drones spraying pesticides onto crops.

In 2024, Moc Chau will focus on the production and sale of biomass corn. It plans to cultivate over 2,100 hectares of biomass corn, with a yield of 40 tonnes per hectare. It will implement the model on sloping land in the seven communes of Hua Pang, Na Muong, Ta Lai, Tan Hop, Quy Huong, Long Sap, and Chieng Khua, each with 10 hectares, and a financial support of 3 million VND per hectare. The district will build a sustainable biomass corn consumption chain, in which cooperatives play the key role in selling products for companies and over 500 dairy farming households in the area.
