The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment coordinated with the People's Committee of Son La province to organise a conference on developing the value chain of Anh Vang 205 longan on September 10.

As part of Project 1 under the National Target Programme for Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2025 period, Son La province has invested in numerous water supply facilities and systems in ethnic minority regions, contributing to the improvement of people’s quality of life.

Currently, Kim Bon commune has over 321 hectares of elephant grass, mainly in hamlets such as Trung Thanh and Suoi On, with popular varieties including VA06 and green elephant grass.

Son La province now has nearly 2,900 women-led environmental sanitation models. In August, support was provided to 127 households to access clean water and 23 households to build hygienic latrines.

The National Agricultural Extension Centre, in collaboration with the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, organised a seminar titled “Raising Awareness of Safe Fruit and Vegetable Production” in Son La province on September 9. The event forms part of the “Strengthening Safe Crop Value Chains in Northern Vietnam” project.

The Charity Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Son La province, in coordination with the People's Committee of Chieng An ward, on September 9 provided 120 million VND (4,548 USD) in support for Quang Anh Tuan’s family in Tam Quynh hamlet to build a new house.

The Office of the provincial People’s Committee on September 9 organised a training conference on the digitalisation of administrative procedure processing results and the handling of administrative services regardless of administrative boundaries within the province. The conference was connected online to the People's Committee offices of all communes and wards across the province.

Son La province is home to 12 ethnic groups, each of whom has its own traditional sports, such as “nem con” (cloth ball throwing), “to mak le”, stilt walking, “tu lu” (spinning top game), “nem pao”, stick pushing, and crossbow shooting. These activities are often held during festivals, holidays, and New Year celebrations, creating a lively and cheerful atmosphere, and becoming an indispensable part of community life.

Over the past eight months, total mobilized capital from credit institutions in Son La province reached VND42.5 trillion ($1.61 billion), an increase of 10.82% compared to the same period in 2024. Total outstanding loans stood at approximately 51.8 trillion, up 8% year-on-year.

The total retail sales of goods in Son La province in August reached over VND3.47 trillion (131.5 million USD), an increase of 16.5% compared to the same period last year.

Son La province’s Department of Education and Training has rolled out a series of measures to expand national-standard schools, standardise facilities and teaching staff, and raise overall education quality. The province is also working to create a safer and more student-friendly learning environment.

Son La province currently has 1,094 cooperatives with over 39,500 members. Among them, 883 are agricultural cooperatives, which serve as a bridge for scientific and technological transfer, forming value chains for product consumption, creating high-quality products that meet market demands, and increasing member incomes.

Since the beginning of this year, residents of Sop Cop commune have planted 38 hectares of new citrus trees, bringing the total citrus-growing area to over 450 hectares.

Chieng Mai commune has over 3,600 hectares of coffee, primarily in the hamlets of Cu, Phieng Quai, Tong Chinh, Sang Na Tre, and Tho Pat.

Quang Van Huong, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly’s Ethnic Council; Hoang Thi Doi, member of the National Assembly’s Ethnic Council and deputy head of the provincial Delegation to National Assembly; and other members, delivered donations to support efforts in overcoming damage caused by natural disasters in the province on September 8.

The Miss Tourism Ethnic Vietnam 2025 pageant was launched at a press conference at Moc Chau Island Tourism Area on September 7. Attending the event were leaders of the Son La provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, representatives of sponsors, and domestic press agencies.

The Red Cross Society of Son La province, in coordination with the Hanoi Red Cross Society and the Red Cross family of Ngoc Mai in Hanoi, organised a programme to present gifts to underprivileged households and students in Song Khua commune on September 7.
