Son La promotes cooperation in producing, selling farm produce

After the five-year implementation of the Government's policy encouraging cooperation and linkages in production and sale of agricultural products, Son La province has seen significant transformation in the farming sector, contributing to sustainable business development.

The Government’s Decree No. 98/2018/ND-CP has facilitated and encouraged cooperation and linkages in agricultural production and consumption, and increased benefits for players in the value chains. The effective implementation of this decree has fixed small-scale production, improved the quality of clean and safe agricultural products in accordance with relevant standards, and served as a significant driving force for the local agricultural sector.

Sơn La has integrated the national target programme on new-style rural area building into its policy supporting the processing, production, and sale of safe agricultural products and food during the 2018-2021 period, and another promoting investments in agriculture and rural areas.

Over the past five years, the province has provided 280 enterprises and cooperatives with over 20 billion VND (831,256 USD) to build and maintain safe agricultural and aquatic product supply chains.

It has approved 89 production linkage projects under value chains, linking production with consumption. To date, 85 have been accepted, with a total budget of nearly 166.7 billion VND (6.93 million USD).

Many businesses and cooperatives that have collaborated with farmers in production and processing are operating fruitfully, notably the production and consumption collaboration between vegetable and fruit production cooperatives and agricultural processing facilities, supermarket chains, and organisations, and individuals involved in agricultural exports.

Son La Sugar JSC has signed production and consumption contracts with nearly 10,000 sugarcane-growing households. Moc Chau Dairy Cattle Breeding JSC has partnered with nearly 580 dairy cow-breeding households. Hundreds of households have grown corn to supply raw materials to a Total Mixed Ration (TMR) factory. Sixteen tea processing facilities and factories have also signed over 7,000 production and consumption contracts.

Over the past five years, the policy supporting linkages in agricultural production and consumption has helped people and cooperatives change their production mindset, apply solutions to enhance productivity and product quality, and unleash the potential of local land and workforce.

Therefore, all-level agencies and sectors need to continue taking measures to remove difficulties to ensure smooth, effective and sustainable production and consumption linkages.
