Therefore, the provincial Farmers’ Union has been focusing on implementing policies and programs to support members and farmers to join training courses to improve skills, helping them meet the requirements of the agricultural economy in the new era.
In fact, there are gaps in the production scale as well as the quality of agricultural products of each region in the province, partly due to the different climate and soil conditions, and farmers’ cultivation levels. Therefore, the provincial Farmers' Union has coordinated with localities to review and evaluate the farming capacity of farmers, thus facilitating the registration of agricultural vocational training courses by members and farmers wishing to study directly at the provincial Farmer Support Center. At the same time, the union has joined hands with agricultural service centers of the districts to organize the transfer of production techniques to members and farmers at the grassroots levels.
Luong Trung Hieu, Chairman of the provincial Farmers' Union, said that in order to improve the efficiency of agricultural vocational training and production technique transfer to rural workers, the union has based on the needs of members and farmers as well as the actual conditions of each region to direct the Farmer Support Center to count the number of trainees with the same needs and coming from regions with similar natural conditions to organize vocational training and technique transfer sessions.
In addition, the union has asked the agricultural service centers of the districts to actively guide farmers to adjust intensive farming techniques, in order to improve the productivity and quality of agricultural products.
Since 2022, the provincial Farmers' Union has directed the Farmer Support Center to open 20 training courses on preliminary processing and processing of agricultural products, planting and taking care of citrus trees, and germinating seeds for nearly 800 members and farmers. 20% of the trainees, after completing the training courses, were introduced by the center to work in agricultural product processing factories and establishments and some cooperatives operating in the field of agricultural production in the province.
Giang A Chinh in Nam Long hamlet, Hang Chu commune, Bac Yen district, after attending a vocational training course organized by the provincial Farmer Support Center, returned to his locality to apply what had learned to the preliminary processing and preservation of medlar, contributing to improving the product's value.
Chinh said that Nam Long hamlet mainly grows medlar and the fruit quality is very good. However, because there is no facility for preliminary processing and post-harvest preservation, farmers mainly sell fresh fruits at low prices.
“Joining the training course, I learned the methods of post-harvest fruit preserving and preliminary processing. I also exchanged my knowledge with people in the hamlet. We contributed money to invest in a 20-ton cold storage warehouse, so we can supply medlar and other agricultural products all year round at good prices,” he said.
According to Nguyen Van Ngan, Director of the Van Phuc Yen Agricultural Cooperative in Muong Thai commune, Phu Yen district, the cooperative grows 20 hectares of organic oranges and pomelos. In order to ensure production in accordance with the process and technical standards, the cooperative prioritizes selecting workers who have undergone vocational training organized by the provincial Farmer Support Center.
Currently, the provincial Farmers’ Union continues to direct the provincial Farmer Support Center to review the vocational training needs of members and farmers, as well as the recruitment needs of businesses and cooperatives in the locality, in order to jointly organize vocational training courses to improve farming skills, thus meeting the requirements of modern production./.
