Son La’s 6 coffee samples compete in Vietnam Amazing Cup 2024

Six coffee samples of Son La province competed in the Vietnam Specialty Coffee Competition 2024 (Vietnam Amazing Cup 2024), organised by the Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Association in the Central Highlands of Dak Lak in mid-April.

Son La province has six coffee samples of Son La province competing in the Vietnam Amazing Cup 2024.

The samples include two Arabica coffee samples from the Bich Thao Son La Coffee Cooperative in Hua La commune, Son La city; two from the Ara-Tay Coffee Cooperative in Chieng Chung commune, Mai Son district; one from Dang The Hoan's household of Group 2 and one from Nguyen Thi Hai Yen's household in Mai Tien hamlet, Chieng Ban commune, Mai Son district.

The Vietnam Amazing Cup 2024 drew the participation of 81 units from eight coffee growing provinces across the country, with 145 samples/lots totalling 255 tonnes, including 168 tonnes of Robusta coffee and 87 tonnes of Arabica coffee. The competition featured preliminary and final rounds, with evaluation standards and procedures following the regulations of the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) and the Coffee Quality Institute (CQI).

After two preliminary rounds, the organisers selected 10 coffee samples/lots to enter the final round, which took place on April 26 and 27 in Buon Ma Thuot city, Dak Lak province. They awarded two first, two second and two third prizes for winning coffee samples. All the six coffee samples from Son La province met specialty coffee standards, with an average score from 81 to over 82 points.
