Deputy PM Le Thanh Long visits flooded areas in Chieng Den commune

Le Thanh Long, member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Prime Minister, on August 4 led a working delegation from the Government to visit flooded areas in Chieng Den commune, Son La city.

Due to the impact of storm Prapiroon, the second hitting Vietnam this year, in Son La province, as of August 4, floods killed 11 people and injured six others; damaged over 2,672 houses and 82 irrigation works; affected 29 schools; swept away 15 suspension bridges; and resulted in 130 landslide sites. Total damage hit about over 501 billion VND (nearly 20 million USD).

In Chieng Den commune, about 50 households in Phieng Nghe and Nam Nieu hamlets and Bom Nam residential cluster in Nam Giang hamlet are still deeply submerged.

After the fact-finding tour, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long visited, encouraged and shared losses with people in flood areas and hoped that households would try to overcome difficulties and soon stabilize their lives.

He acknowledged and appreciated the proactive implementation of "4 on the spot" plan of Son La city and Son La province, especially the military, police and rescue forces’ timely movement of residents and assets to safe places.

He urged ministries, agencies, Son La province and Son La city to continue to stay vigilant and direct the fixing of flood and rain consequences, ensuring life safety for people.

Hoang Quoc Khanh, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, thanked the Deputy Prime Minister and the working delegation of the Government for visiting and encouraging households in flooded areas of Son La city and Son La province.

Son La province will acquire the instructions of the Deputy Prime Minister, ministries and central agencies, and well implement the "4 on the spot" motto to ease flood damage and soon stabilise local life and production, he promised.

On this occasion, the Government provided emergency aid of 10 billion VND (396,551 USD) to Son La province to overcome flood consequences.
