Provincial Vice Chairman inspects forest protection, fire prevention in Mai Son, Song Ma

Song Ma district has over 62,000 hectares of natural forest and over 8,000 hectares of planted forest. Forest protection and firefighting and prevention have always received due attention from local Party committees and authorities. The district has established 19 steering committees at commune and town level; and 302 community forest protection and firefighting teams, with 3,299 members. It has also provided training for forest owners and people on forest firefighting techniques.

In Mai Son, forests cover over 47,500 hectares. In 2024, the whole district planted nearly 160 hectares of forest and over 78,700 scattered trees. Right from the beginning of the dry season, localities, units and forest owners have built and implemented firefighting and prevention plans. Commitments on these tasks have been signed between the Chairpersons of the People's Committees of all 22 communes and town and the Chairperson of the district People's Committee; between 62 halmet heads and the Chairpersons of the commune-level People's Committees; and between nearly 9,700 households and the hamlet heads.

While working in the two districts, Cong urged local Party committees, authorities, and forest rangers to take proactive measures with the motto "prevention is key”; and maintain round-the-clock presence for a quick response to forest fires. He also called for continued investment in additional firefighting equipment, as well as attention to policies supporting the forest protection forces, creating sustainable livelihoods for communities dependent on the forest and raising awareness of the importance of forest protection.
