Son La’s young people set off for military service

In a jubilant and exciting atmosphere, on February 27 morning, localities throughout Son La province held ceremonies to see off new recruits. Leaders of the Military Region 2, the province and localities and a large number of people came to encourage and congratulate 1,716 recruits on their journey to defend the Fatherland.

To implement the target of selecting and calling citizens to join the armed forces in 2024, the military service councils at all levels directed the strict, open and transparent implementation of the selection of recruits, in accordance with procedures, to ensure the quantity and quality of enlisted soldiers.

Before the handover ceremony, localities organised many programmes to encourage new recruits, such as offering incense at historical relic sites, wrapping banh chung (square sticky rice cake), holding get-togethers and art performances, and giving savings books and gifts.

Right from the early morning, at handover places, new recruits all felt excited, proud and determined to well fulfil their tasks during their service time.

In Mai Son district, the ceremony was attended by Nguyen Huu Dong, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, head of the provincial delegation of National Assembly deputies; Lieutenant General Pham Hong Chuong, Commander of the Military Region 2; and Colonel To Quang Hanh, member of the provincial Party Committee’s Standing Board and Commander of the provincial Military Command.

This year, Mai Son district has 174 new recruits, of whom 130 serve the military and 44 take part in the people's public security force. Notably, 106 of them wrote applications to voluntarily join the armed forces, with excitement, pride, and determination to fulfil their duties to the Fatherland. Military recruitment was carried out seriously and in accordance with regulations, with new recruits meeting requirements in terms of political quality, education level, and health.

In Quynh Nhai district, Lo Minh Hung, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, attended the send-off ceremony and encouraged new recruits.

This time, Quynh Nhai has 130 citizens enlisted in the armed forces, including 95 for military service and 35 for people's public security service. Four of them voluntarily wrote applications to join the armed forces. The receiving units are Division 316 (Military Region 2), Regiment 754 (the provincial Military Command), and the provincial Department of Public Security.

The send-off ceremony took place in a solemn atmosphere. The new recruits were excited and showed high determination to well fulfil their assigned tasks before leaving for military service.

On the same day, at Tay Bac (Northwest) Square, Son La city also held a ceremony to send off new recruits in 2024.

Attending the event were Hoang Quoc Khanh, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee and Chairman of the provincial Military Service Council; and Ha Trung Chien, member of the provincial Party Committee’s Standing Board, Secretary of the city Party Committee, Chairman of the city People's Council, and Secretary of the Party Committee of the city Military Command.

Encouraging the new recruits, the city’s leaders gave savings books and gifts totalling nearly 200 million VND (8,100 USD) to them.

At the ceremony, the leaders expressed their belief that the new recruits will promote the heroic traditions, quickly integrate into the military environment, strive to study, nurture morality, strictly observe military discipline and regulations of the units, and successfully complete assigned tasks. The receiving units promised to care for and create the most favourable conditions for the new recruits to train and become good soldiers, contributing to building and protecting the Fatherland.

A ceremony was held at the square of the Moc Chau district administrative centre to send off new recruits for military service, attended by Nguyen Thai Hung, member of the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People's Council; leaders of the provincial Military Command and Department of Public Security, and Moc Chau district, along with local residents.

This year, Moc Chau counts 157 new recruits, of them 120 in military and 37 in public security. The recruitment was conducted seriously in line with regulations, and the soldiers satisfy political, cultural and health requirements, and are eligible to join the army to defend the Fatherland.

At the ceremony, the new recruits expressed their excitement, pride and resolve to fulfill the duty for the fatherland. The participating leaders also noted their hope that the soldiers will carry forward the traditions of the heroic homeland, make efforts in training, observe military rules, and well perform assigned tasks, deserving the confidence of the Party organisation, authorities, locals and families.

Meanwhile, in Phu Yen district, a similar ceremony was held at a historical relic site related to the resistance war against French forces – the Nhot Hamlet Forest in Gia Phu commune.

Among the 164 new recruits in Phu Yen this year, more than 70% are ethnic minorities.

The participating leaders said they hope that the soldiers will uphold the traditions of the heroic homeland, quickly integrate into the military environment, make efforts in training, abide by military rules, and outstandingly complete assigned tasks, deserving the confidence of the Party organisation, authorities, locals and families.

On this occasion, localities in Phu Yen district presented 164 gifts to the young soldiers.

In Song Ma district, a ceremony was also held to send off new recruits, with Trang Thi Xuan, member of the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee and Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, attending.

This year, 163 citizens in Song Ma were drafted into the army, of them 120 in military and 43 in public security. The recruitment quality is higher than the previous year.

The new recruits will be sent to such units as Regiments 192, 98 of the Military Region 2, the provincial Border Guard, the provincial Military Command, and the provincial Department of Public Security.

Earlier, all-level Party committees and authorities, and mass organisations in the district, communes and towns jointly held an art programme for the new recruits, during which gifts worth over 400 million VND (16,233) USD was presented to them as a source of encouragement.

A total of 132 young people in Muong La district were enlisted into the armed forces this year, of them 95 for military service and 37 for public security service. Their quality is even and higher than the previous year.

Those in groups 1 and 2 in terms of health conditions accounted for 85% of the total; and those with high school diplomas, 47.7%. Up to 99% of them are youth union members and one is a Party member.

At the event, provincial and district leaders presented flowers to the soldiers, and noted their belief that they will promote the traditions of the homeland and the youth spirit in training, seriously observe army rules and outstandingly perform assigned tasks.  

The ceremony in Bac Yen district was attended by Cha A Cua, member of the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Council; leaders of the provincial Labour Confederation and its chapter in Bac Yen district; and local residents.

This year, 116 young people in Bac Yen, who meet political, cultural and health requirements, were selected for the armed forces, of whom 80 will serve the military and 36, the public security force.

Notably, 37, including one female, wrote applications to voluntarily join the armed forces.

The new recruits were sent to Regiment 754, the provincial Military Command; Regiment 174, Division 316, Military Region 2; the Son La provincial Department of Public Security; and Regiment 692, Division 301, the Hanoi Capital Command.

Speaking at the ceremony, a leader of Bac Yen district acknowledged and praised the responsibility of new recruits’ families and local authorities at all levels for actively encouraging and creating favourable conditions for the young people to set off for military service.

On February 27, Yen Chau district held a similar ceremony to send off new recruits. Attending the event was Luong Thi Van Anh, member of the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee and head of the provincial Party Committee's inspection board.

This year, Yen Chau district has 132 new recruits aged from 18-25. According to the district Military Service Council, this year's recruits meet requirements regarding education level, health and political quality, including two with university degrees. At the ceremony, the leaders of the province and Yen Chau district gave flowers and encouraged the young people to continue to promote the tradition of Uncle Ho's soldiers, and strive to successfully complete all assigned tasks, contributing to building and protecting the country.

Previously, the district Military Service Council organised many practical activities such as presenting savings books to new recruits (each worth 1 million VND), wrapping banh chung (square glutinous rice cake) and cultural exchanges to encourage young people to join the armed forces.

Sharing the same atmosphere, Thuan Chau district organised the 2024 military handover ceremony, which saw the presence of Dinh Thi Bich Thao, member of the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee and head of the provincial Party Committee's information and education board.

This time, Thuan Chau district has 176 young people enlisted in the armed forces, fulfilling the assigned target. Of these, 130 set off for military service and 46 citizens for people's public security service.  All the new recruits are youth union members, aged 18-20, from Kinh, Thai, Mong, La Ha, Khang and Khu Mu ethnic groups. Receiving units include Regiment 174, Division 316 (Military Region 2); Regiment 754 (the provincial Military Command) and the provincial Department of Public Security.

Previously, the district Military Service Council disseminated the Law on Military Service Law and regulations and internal rules of the receiving units; distributed personal military clothing; and organized a gala night. The local Party committees, authorities and mass organisations presented gifts worth more than 276 million VND in total to the enlisted citizens.

In Sop Cop district, attending the 2024 recruit send-off ceremony was Luu Minh Quan, member of the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee and head of the provincial Party Committee's mass mobilization board.

This year, Sop Cop district fulfilled the target of delivering 114 new recruits, including 80 for military service and 34 for people’s public security service. They were selected from eight communes and sent to Regiment 192 (Military Region 2), Regiment 754 (the provincial Military Command), the provincial Border Guard Command and the provincial Department of Public Security.

According to the district Military Service Council, the steps to prepare for recruiting and calling young people to join the armed forces were carried out carefully and thoughtfully. Before handing over the recruits, the all-level Party Committees and authorities held sessions to make young people understand their duty to protect the Fatherland. The new recruits have good political quality, qualifications, and health.

In Van Ho district, although the weather was cold and foggy, the new recruits were full of excitement and readiness to join the armed forces. Attending the send-off ceremony was Major General Nguyen Ngoc Van, member of the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee and Director of the provincial Department of Public Security.

This year, Van Ho district has 126 enlisted citizens, including 90 for military service and 36 for people’s public security service, fulfilling the target. The receiving units are the provincial Border Guard Command, Regiment 754 (the provincial Military Command), Regiment 198 and the provincial Department of Public Security. The military recruitment was carried out seriously and in accordance with regulations. The new recruits meet the standards in political quality, education level and health, and are eligible to join the armed forces to protect the Fatherland.

The army-joining festival took place in a heroic atmosphere, showing the determination of the new recruits to strive to study and practice, abide by military discipline, and stay ready to receive and well fulfill all assigned tasks, deserving Uncle Ho's soldiers.
