At the programme, 1.5 tonnes of rice from Tong Thi Phong, former Poliburo member and former Standing Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly, were handed over to poor households in the commune.
On this occasion, units presented nearly 800 gifts to underprivileged households and social policy beneficiaries in Chieng Son, Long Sap and Chieng Khua communes, and “great unity” houses to two others. They also provided financial assistance to five households, and nearly 2.4 tonnes of rice to the needy. Nine hamlets in Chieng Khua received national flags and President Ho Chi Minh’s photos. Nine prestigious persons of local ethnic groups also got gifts.
At the event, 33 poor students and those under the "Border guards' adopted children" programme were also presented with scholarships and certificates of merit from the provincial Study Promotion Association. Sixty disadvantaged students with outstanding academic achievements in Chieng Son commuine also got such gifts.
A charity group staffed by female intellectuals granted gifts to 10 outstanding students of the Chieng Khua Primary and Secondary School, and offered free haircuts to border students and residents.
There was also a “zero-dong booth” offering many essential items to nearly 500 families in difficult circumstances and social policy beneficiaries in Moc Chau district’s border communes, with total funding amounting to over 1 billion VND (40,642 USD).
The programme also featured other activities like banh chung (square glutinous rice cake) and banh day (round glutinous rice cake) wrapping contests, and folk games such as nem con (throwing a cloth ball through a ring for good luck), day gay (stick pushing), and keo co (tug of war).
