Sop Cop district is home to four ethnic minorities, namely Mong, Kho Mu, Thai and Lao. Each ethnic group has its own cultural identity and traditional crafts, with varying levels of skill and scale. The provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee on August 26 received cash and gifts from the Charity Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Central Committee in support of people in disaster-hit areas in Son La province.

As of August 25, the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee had received over 20 billion VND from agencies, units, businesses, and individuals inside and outside the province in support of local people affected by natural disasters.

The provincial Department of Public Security on August 26 launched a peak period to ensure traffic safety and order on the occasion of the National Day (September 2) holiday and the peak month for traffic safety for students going back to school, and starting a new school year.

The provincial Union of Science and Technology Associations on August 23 coordinated with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment and the Department of Construction to organise a workshop on consultations on production and trading of common construction materials in Son La province.

Permanent Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Lo Minh Hung on August 21 inspected the flood situation in Phieng Nghe hamlet, Chieng Den commune, Son La city. Accompanying him were Nguyen Thanh Cong, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee; and leaders of relevant departments and agencies, and Son La city.

The Phu Yen district People's Committee on August 16 held a ceremony to receive a certificate recognising the ritual part of the “Xip xi” Festival, the Tet of the White Thai people in Quynh Nhai and Phu Yen districts, as national intangible cultural heritage. The ceremony was held at the Dinh Chu historical site in Chieng Ha hamlet, Quang Huy commune.

Nguyen Thanh Cong, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee and deputy head of the provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, and Search and Rescue, inspected the fixing of landslide consequences and the arrangement of resettlement sites for affected households in Ta Xua commune, Bac Yen district.

The Son La provincial Department of Public Security’s Youth Committee on August 13-14 coordinated with Phu Yen district’s Youth Union to start construction on eight school and housing projects in three communes in the district.

A delegation from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) led by Permanent Vice President Thai Thu Xuong on August 13 paid a working visit to Son La province on the leadership and direction of member development and the establishment of grassroots-level trade unions in 2024.
