The Union of Science and Technology Associations of Son La province, in coordination with the provincial Department of Education and Training, held a consultative workshop on human resources training solutions aligned with labour market and employment needs in Son La on June 20.

Attending the event were leaders from provincial departments, agencies, and member associations of the union, as well as representatives from Tay Bac University and Son La College.

An overview of the consultative workshop on human resources training solutions aligned with labour market and employment needs in Son La.

Developing a high-quality workforce has become a pressing and strategic requirement for sustainable development, especially in the context of digital transformation, green growth, and deepening international integration. It is a key factor in driving growth and ensuring long-term sustainability.

In reality, the quality of Son La’s human resources remains limited. The proportion of trained workers holding degrees or certificates is only around 27%, lower than the national average. Meanwhile, key sectors such as high-tech agriculture, eco-tourism, renewable energy, and rural logistics are facing a serious shortage of skilled workers with technical expertise, digital competencies, and integration capacity.

The root causes include weak links between schools, enterprises, and learners; training programmes that are not closely aligned with practical production and business needs; underdeveloped labour forecasting and career guidance; and a lack of coherent, flexible policies on post-training workforce utilisation.

At the workshop, experts, scholars, and delegates discussed and assessed the current situation and existing shortcomings in human resources training in the province; analysed and clarified the demands of the current labour market; and proposed practical and feasible solutions to align human resources development with the real needs of businesses, localities, and society.

Following the event, the union will compile and submit a consultative report to the standing members of the provincial Party Committee and the provincial People’s Committee, to support policy-making in the fields of education, training, and local human resources development.
