Conference raises awareness about harmful effects of child, consanguineous marriage

The provincial Department of Ethnic and Religious Affairs on November 18-19 organised a conference to disseminate legal information and raise awareness about the harmful effects of child marriage and consanguineous marriage in 2025.

Nearly 100 participants, including representatives of hamlet-level Fatherland Front working boards and mass organisations, reputable community members, and several ethnic minority households from communes and wards across the province, attended the event.

They studied thematic topics such as intervention and prevention measures to reduce child marriage and consanguineous marriage; analysis of the consequences of these practices for individuals, families, and communities; and guidance on communication skills, advocacy, and legal counseling related to marriage, family, and the prevention of child marriage and consanguineous marriage in ethnic minority and mountainous areas.

The participants discussed difficulties and challenges encountered during communication activities, and proposed practical solutions to reduce and prevent child marriage and consanguineous marriage at the grassroots level.

The conference aimed to equip grassroots-level officials with knowledge and communication skills related to child marriage and consanguineous marriage, thereby improving the quality and effectiveness of awareness-raising efforts and contributing to eliminating these practices in the locality.
