New rice festival in Chim Van commune

Chim Ha hamlet in Chim Van commune, Bac Yen district, on November 9 held the 2024 New Rice Festival, attracting a large turnout from local communities and visitors in and outside the province.

Chim Van commune’s leaders join the 2024 New Rice Festival

The festival included ceremonial and festive parts. In the ceremonial part, a local shaman performed rituals to express gratitude to ancestors and the nature, praying for favourable weather, bountiful harvests, and a wealthy life for all.

The festive part featured competitions on food display, blindfolded duck catching, to mak le, archery, and tug-of-war.

Locals and visitors participated in traditional games such as "tung con" (cloth ball throwing) and rice pounding, and explored nine cultural spaces from the hamlets of Chim Van and Pac Nga communes.

Local products are introduced to residents and visitors.

A longstanding tradition among Chim Van’s ethnic communities, the festival is cherished as a vital celebration of their cultural heritage, spiritual beliefs, and community identity. It not only helps preserve traditional customs but also serves as a means to promote Chim Van’s land, people, and culture to visitors.

At the end of the festival, the organising committee presented seven first, six second, five third, and six consolation prizes across various events, including men’s and women’s archery, blindfolded duck catching, fishing, tug-of-war, and culinary displays
