Moc Chau creates momentum for tourism economy development

Moc Chau Plateau boasts beautiful natural landscapes, a fresh climate, and the unique cultural identities of 12 ethnic groups. To unlock the potential and advantages of this region, many businesses and cooperatives are working together to leverage the cultural values, creating dual benefits for both tourism economy development and cultural conservation.

The Moc Chau Island Tourist Site collaborates with Muong Sang commune to organise the Rain Praying Festival.

The Moc Chau Island Tourist Site, home to the world’s longest Bạch Long glass bridge, operated by Tour 26 Moc Chau JSC, has established itself as an unmissable destination for visitors to Moc Chau Plateau. During holidays or weekends, the site organises various cultural activities such as the Northwestern market, the "Tieng Khen Goi Ban" (The Khen sounds call friends) market, and community cultural events, offering exciting experiences for tourists.

Hoang Manh Duy, Deputy Director of the Moc Chau Island Tourist Site, said, “In March, we worked with the local government to organise the Rain Praying Festival, offering free entry to locals and tourists. This reflects our company’s responsibility towards preserving and promoting the unique cultural values of the locality, as well as creating new tourism products that attract visitors to Moc Chau Island in particular and the Moc Chau National Tourism Area in general.”

The Rain Praying Festival is held at the Khan Pieu Square in the Moc Chau Island Tourist Site.

Pha Luong Tourism JSC has integrated the preservation, maintenance, and development of local culture into its activities at the Dai Yem Waterfall Tourist Site and the Moc Chau Walking Street - Night Market. Visitors can immerse themselves in the colourful cultural atmosphere of the ethnic communities here. At the Moc Chau Walking Street - Night Market, tourists experience a vibrant space filled with traditional artistic values, and enjoy special performances by local ethnic groups in the evenings.

Additionally, numerous artifacts and materials related to the cultural and spiritual life of the Thai ethnic group are displayed, including tools, jewelry, ancient books, and traditional woven products. Visitors can also sample traditional dishes such as smoked buffalo meat, cham cheo (a dipping sauce), honey and medicinal herbs, and purchase traditional woven textiles and specialty agricultural products from Moc Chau.

The preservation and promotion of the cultural values of ethnic minorities linked to tourism economy development has been identified as one of the key solutions for Moc Chau's tourism to thrive in an efficient and sustainable way. According to Dinh Thi Huong, head of Moc Chau Culture, Science, and Information Division, the township has encouraged and supported the establishment of community-based tourism models and the restoration and revival of traditional festivals.

Each year, Moc Chau organises tourism promotion events such as the Moc Chau Cultural Tourism Week in early September, the Het Cha Festival, the Rain Praying Festival, the Fruit Harvesting Festival, and the Vietnam Trail Marathon, diversifying tourism products and attracting over 2.5 million visitors annually. This has generated more than 3 trillion VND (116.3 million USD) in social revenue.
