Tay Bac Tea and Specialty JSC introduces the Ta Xua ancient San Tuyet tea.
In the 2021-2025 period, Son La has proactively developed and issued a plan to implement the Intellectual Property Strategy, achieving many important results in creating intellectual property and quality management. In particular, it has organised 92 council sessions, recognised 181 innovative solutions, and supported the construction of a traceability system for 62 agricultural products, along with 69 other products.
Attention has been paid to developing intellectual property through scientific and technological tasks in order to register and protect certification marks for key agricultural products, such as dragon fruit, macadamia, Son La pineapple, and Ta Xua Bac Yen tea; to tap the geographical indication of Yen Chau mango; and carry out procedures to register and protect the "Son La" trademark in the Chinese market for mango and longan.
The province has also promoted the application of scientific and technological advances in production, focusing on building specialised areas following VietGAP, GlobalGAP standards and equivalent standards, aiming towards organic production and implementing effective farming techniques, such as pruning, canopy creation, crop spreading, and off-season cultivation to improve product quality and value.
To date, Son La has had 29 agricultural products bearing the province's geographical name granted protection certificates by the Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam, an increase of eight compared to 2020. They include three geographical indications, 23 certification marks and three collective marks. Notably, the province's agricultural products are not only protected domestically but also reach out to the international market with two protected abroad: Moc Chau Shan Tuyet tea in Thailand and Shan Tuyet tea and Yen Chau mango in the European market according to the commitments in the EU- Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).
The whole province has over 4,000 hectares of crops using water-saving irrigation systems; 5,596 hectares of crops meeting VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards; 8,217 hectares of organic production; more than 19,200 hectares of coffee certified for production according to 4C, UTZ and equivalent standards. Nine high-tech agricultural zones have been recognised with key products such as tea, dairy cows, coffee, custard apples, mangoes, longans, and plums; and brand building has been promoted with 308 safe supply chains and 218 growing area codes on 3,142 hectares, along with the development of 241 provincial and national OCOP (One Commune One Product) products.

In recent years, the value of the "Son La Coffee" brand has continued to expand, affirming its position and quality in the international market. To date, seven organisations have been granted the right to use geographical indications by the Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam, including Son La Coffee Processing Joint Stock Company, Phuc Sinh Son La Joint Stock Company, Minh Tien Group Joint Stock Company - Son La branch, Bich Thao Son La Cooperative, and Aratay Coffee Cooperative.
Cam Thi Mon, Director of Aratay Coffee Cooperative in Muong Chanh commune, shared that being granted the right to use the geographical indication "Son La Coffee" is a big turning point for the cooperative. It is not only the recognition of product quality but also helps the cooperative build strong trust with export partners. Its deep-processed coffee products have reached more demanding markets. In 2024, Aratay sold over 10 tonnes of various types of coffee beans. Stable and higher purchasing prices have brought a better life to the cooperative’s members.
