Every afternoon, on sports fields at agencies, units, communes and townships in Muong La district, there are exciting football, volleyball and badminton matches. Depending on age and hobby, each person chooses an appropriate sport.
Dang Quoc Tuan, Chairman of the Nang Cau table tennis club in It Ong township’s Sub-zone 1, shared that his club has 20 members who share the same passion for table tennis. “In addition to regular training, we also join exchange matches with clubs inside and outside the district,” he said.
In Muong Trai commune, the sports movement has been also maintained. All the villages have sports teams, playing such sports as badminton, volleyball, football and swimming. During holidays, Lunar New Year (Tet), festivals, and culture-sports exchanges, the commune organizes competitions of ethnic groups’ sports like To mak le, “tung con” (throwing a sacred ball through the ring) and crossbow shooting, attracting a large number of people. Its sports movements create a playground and a healthy lifestyle for local residents, especially the young.
Nguyen Van Sang, head of the district Culture and Information Division, said the agency has advised the district People's Committee to invest in upgrading and renovating gymnasiums and sports fields. Muong La now has one district-level gymnasium, 16 communal-level cultural and sports halls, 16 football fields, 20 volleyball courts, and three swimming pools. In addition, there are over 250 sports fields of agencies, units, schools and villages and sub-zones, meeting the people's demand for sport practice and exchanges.
The physical training and sports movement in Muong La is growing day by day. The whole district has 87 gymnastics and sports clubs. Most villages and sub-zones have sports teams, thousands of people practice sports regularly, and 34% of households have been recognized as sports families.
Since the beginning of this year, units in the district have organized nine district-level sports tournaments with more than 1,150 participants. The district also sent athletes to provincial-level sports tournaments, earning two gold, four silver and seven bronze medals.
With plentiful and diverse activities, the sports movement in Muong La has spread throughout the residential areas, improving health and connecting solidarity in the community, and at the same time building a healthy lifestyle and cultural environment.
