Long Sap main border gate expected to receive international status soon

Trang Thi Xuan, member of the standing board of the provincial Party Committee and Permanent Vice Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Committee, on July 11 inspected the progress of land clearance and compensation efforts, as well as preparations for the groundbreaking of the project to upgrade the Long Sap main border gate to an international border gate.

She was accompanied by representatives from relevant departments and agencies, the provincial Border Guard Command, and the construction unit.

The project covers a national border gate complex integrated with an interagency checkpoint and auxiliary facilities; housing for border guard officers; a bonded warehouse; electricity and water supply and drainage systems; an import vehicle parking lot; weighing and scanning stations; a quarantine station; inspection and quarantine yards; a preliminary processing area; an unloading yard; departure and arrival terminals; an export vehicle yard; a border guard station; a customs post; a medical station; as well as landscaping and technical infrastructure.

In addition, the project includes the construction of a road system that will meet urban standards, and technical facilities.

The project aims to transform the border gate area into a hub for border trade, services, tourism, and finance, featuring a modern and harmonious infrastructure system. It also seeks to improve the material, cultural, and spiritual well-being of local residents, while facilitating exchanges and cooperation between Vietnam and Laos in general, and between Son La and northern Lao provinces in particular.

To date, the selection of the project investor and construction supervision consultant has been completed. Authorities have also finalised the inventory and assessment of affected households, including land origin verification and asset valuation. Land clearance efforts are now being actively accelerated.

Following the field inspection, Xuan requested the provincial Border Guard Command to closely coordinate with relevant departments, agencies, and local authorities to accelerate land clearance, review land origin records for affected households, and ensure that compensation is carried out in accordance with regulations.

The construction unit was urged to mobilise maximum manpower and equipment to begin work on the project, speed up construction progress, and disburse allocated funds on schedule.

She also emphasised the need to strengthen inspection and supervision to ensure construction quality.
