Border guards assist residents in recovering from storm damage

Due to the impact of the circulation from Tropical Storm Wipha, heavy rains hit several border communes in Son La province, causing landslides and localised blockages on key roads, including Provincial Road 103 in Long Phieng commune, the road to Muong Cai, and the road to Nam Lanh.

Officers and soldiers of the Nam Lanh Border Guard Station coordinate with local authorities to fix the damage caused by natural disasters.

In response, the command units of the Chieng Tuong, Muong Cai, and Nam Lanh Border Guard Stations each deployed more than 10 officers and soldiers. They worked closely with local authorities, relevant forces, and residents to quickly clear mud, rocks, and fallen trees from roads, ensuring traffic could resume safely.

At the same time, officers and soldiers were also sent to assist local people with harvesting rice and other crops to minimise agricultural losses caused by the flooding.

Officers, soldiers, and local forces clear fallen trees blocking the road.

Officers and soldiers of the Muong Cai Border Guard Station help local people harvest rice to prevent waterlogging.

The provincial Border Guard Command has instructed its units to strictly maintain full personnel readiness, ensure necessary supplies and equipment are available, and remain prepared to coordinate with local forces and communities in disaster response, search and rescue operations, and efforts to protect residents’ property, helping reduce the impact of storms and floods.
