Long Phieng commune's forest fire response, search and rescue drill earns top marks

Yen Chau district’s Long Phieng commune on October 28 conducted a successful forest fire response and search and rescue drill in 2024.

The exercise began with a meeting where the communal command for forest fire prevention and fighting assessed the forest fire situation, adjusted the response plan, and assigned tasks to mass organisations and hamlets. Local forces and reinforcements were asked to enhance the practicing of effective fire response and damage recovery efforts.

The practice part took place in Ta Vang hamlet, simulating a forest fire in a protective area. Although villagers battled the flames, the fire spread, threatening nearby homes. The command mobilized over 200 personnel, including militia, police, military, youth volunteers, and local residents, alongside officers from the Chieng Tuong Border Guard Station and forest rangers. Together, they worked swiftly to extinguish the fire, evacuate residents, and carry out search and rescue operations, ensuring the safety of residents’ property. They prepared medicine and medical supplies and stood ready to rescue the injured and transport victims to safe places.

The drill was evaluated as excellent. The Chairman of the district People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to three collectives and 10 individuals for their outstanding achievements in the exercise.
