Son La city set to become first-tier urban area

Lo Minh Hung, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, on July 10 chaired a meeting of the provincial Steering Committee on developing Son La city into a first-tier urban area with green, fast, and sustainable development (Steering Committee 251) to evaluate the performance of its tasks in the second quarter of 2024 and launch key tasks for the third quarter.

Attending the meeting were members of the provincial Party Committee’s Standing Board, standing members of the provincial People's Council and People's Committee; and members of the Steering Committee 251.

In the second quarter of 2024, Steering Committee 251 focused on leading and directing the Party delegation to the provincial People's Committee and assisting groups to implement tasks according to Conclusion No. 353-KL/TU dated September 7, 2021 of the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee.

Regarding urban planning, it concentrated on urging the review, making and adjustment of detailed planning schemes. It completed those of the provincial School of Politics and Son La Medical College; and Dai Thang residential area on Chu Van An street’s second branch. It is making the detailed planning schemes of Tay Bac University and Son La College; reviewing and completing others for the headquarters of some agencies and units.

Son La city has focused on leading and directing the implementation of 70 projects, including 23 transition projects and 47 new ones. Currently, the city People's Committee is hastening the completion of targets and criteria for civilised urban roads and the improvement of the quality of recognised roads and streets, striving to have 34 out of 35 routes recognised as civilised urban roads by 2025. Attention has been paid to attracting investment, managing and using revenue sources, and building a smart city imbued with ethnic cultural identity.

Delegates discussed and proposed solutions to overcome difficulties; effectively implement the tasks of allocating funds to implement projects; promote investment attraction, increase budget revenue, speed up the disbursement of public investment capital, and expand administrative boundaries.

Speaking at the meeting, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Lo Minh Hung assigned the Party delegation to the provincial People's Committee to direct the provincial People's Committee to continue to direct the effective implementation of the assigned tasks, focusing on completely removing existing obstacles to projects; completing 10 projects in celebration of Party congresses at all levels for the 2025-2030 term; arranging resources to start construction on a number of important projects in the 2024-2025 period; and making a list of projects to be added to the medium-term public investment plan for 2026-2030.

Steering Committee 251 should assign its assisting groups to direct relevant departments and agencies to give advice on the removal of difficulties and obstacles in the process of organising and implementing the assigned tasks, he said.

The steering committee will mobilise, integrate, and effectively use resources to implement technical infrastructure construction and urban embellishment and development projects, while removing difficulties and obstacles for investors and urging investors to speed up the implementation of projects in the city, he noted.

Hung also asked the Standing Board of the city Party Committee to continue to conduct research and implement urban classification and administrative boundary adjustment projects; coordinate with Mai Son district to develop investment plans and propose development resources for Hat Lot, Chieng Mung and Chieng Ban communes to gradually improve urban quality.
